Allianz General | Allianz General combines innovative protection solutions while powering social good to lead Malaysian market

June 25 2025

Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad (Allianz General), the country’s largest general insurer with a 14.9% market share as of March, has solidified its market position through a diverse portfolio of innovative products and impactful corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

As a key driver behind its parent company Allianz Malaysia Berhad (Allianz Malaysia), alongside the life insurance unit – Allianz Life Insurance Malaysia Berhad, Allianz General has strengthened the group’s standing in the industry. The insurer differentiates itself by proactively addressing emerging risks and evolving customer protection needs.

A prime example of its approach is the Allianz EV Shield initiative, launched in February 2024 under its Private Car Comprehensive policy. This offering includes on-the-go charging coverage – a first in the industry.

Allianz EV Shield Initiative

Policyholders stranded with low battery power can rely on the Allianz EV Rangers for on-the-spot EV charging, or have their vehicle towed to the nearest charging facility if it’s out of charge.

Key benefits include coverage of up to RM15,000 for losses or damages to home wall charger caused by fire, theft or natural disasters, and up to RM2,000 for loss or damage to portable charging cable due to fire, theft, accidental collision or overturning.

For mishaps during charging using a public EV charger, a compassionate cover of up to RM5,000 is afforded to customers for the cost of repair, or for medical expenses if the vehicle is damaged and the insured suffers bodily injuries.

Insured parties are also covered up to RM50,000 for third-party bodily injury and property damage caused by the insured’s direct use of an EV home wall charger.

Deeply aware of the escalating threats posed by climate change, from devastating wildfires to catastrophic floods, Allianz General has committed to delivering comprehensive insurance solutions to safeguard policyholders.

In 2023 alone, Malaysia’s Fire and Rescue Department responded to 34,389 fire-related distress calls, with estimated losses reaching RM2.6 billion.

Despite this, over half of Malaysian homeowners remain uninsured, leaving them exposed to severe financial strain in the event of a disaster.

Even those with fire insurance – typically bundled into housing loans – often find their coverage insufficient. Most policies only protect the physical structure of the home, excluding high-value contents such as electronics, furniture, appliances, and jewellery.

Allianz General’s Smart Home Cover policy bridges this gap, offering flexible add-ons to its building (HouseOwner) or contents (HouseHolder) coverage to suit varying protection needs, such as its HomeFix coverage for home repair costs as well as landlord insurance for malicious damage by an existing or absconding tenants.

Depending on one’s budget, Allianz General affords its clients the flexibility to choose between an annual plan with yearly renewals or multi-year plans, where a single premium is paid for hassle-free three-year coverage and a lower premium cost across all components.

When floods struck Kedah in September 2024, Allianz General implemented a fast-track claims process, issuing a first interim payment within five days of inspection if the full payment required more time. The insurer achieved a 96% compliance rate, disbursing RM1,028,196.33 to affected policyholders promptly.

Similarly, Allianz General took swift action to assist its customers following the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion in April 2025, which caused millions of ringgit in damages to the surrounding community.

In the wake of the explosion, Allianz General implemented immediate relief measures as part of industry-wide support efforts, granting eligible motor insurance policyholders a one-time no-claim discount waiver and extending RM2,500 in emergency cash assistance through its “Allianz We Care” programme.

The insurer further demonstrated its commitment to community support by waiving the standard Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) report requirement for non-motor claims related to the incident and deploying on-site teams to assist customers and non-customers alike with vehicle relocation.

Allianz General also offers comprehensive travel protection through its Allianz Travel Care and Allianz Travel Easy plans, providing flexible coverage for both one-way and round-trip journeys.

These policies address a wide range of travel concerns including coverage for Covid-19, death and permanent disablement due to accident, medical expenses, travel or luggage delay, and emergency medical evacuation and repatriation, safeguarding travellers at home and abroad.

Giving back to the community

Beyond providing affordable, quality insurance solutions, Allianz Malaysia demonstrates its commitment to social impact through Allianz4Good, its CSR arm.

Allianz Malaysia continues to support projects that are aligned with eight key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health & Well-being, Quality Education, Decent Work & Economic Growth, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and Reduced Inequalities.

In 2024, the insurer carried out 55 CSR initiatives. The programme has shown positive results, with 41% of students speaking better English and 45% showing academic improvements. Ongoing since 2022, it benefits 40 primary school students in Pulau Tuba, Langkawi.

Under the Economic Empowerment Programme for PWD (EEP), Allianz Malaysia supports upskilling PWD through vocational training in partnership with the Sabah Cheshire Home & Services and Selangor Cheshire Home. The programme recorded 90%-100% industrial placements for beneficiaries. Running from July 2024 to June 2025, it benefits 35 PWD youths and adults in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, and Klang Valley. This project aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 8 (Decent Work & Economic Growth).

Allianz Malaysia also supports the Orang Asli Sustainable Livelihood Green Economy Project together with Yayasan Kajian Pembangunan Masyarakat, focusing on organic farming and agroforestry for Orang Asli communities in Pekan, Pahang. The programme provides training for community leadership, teamwork inspiration, and heritage protection. Running from December 2024 to December 2025, it benefits 65 Orang Asli farmers in Pekan, Pahang, and aligns with SDG 8 (Decent Work & Economic Growth).

Earlier this year, when devastating floods struck Sabah and Sarawak, Allianz Malaysia supported the Malaysia International Search and Rescue (MISAR) in mobilising critical relief operations and providing aid to the affected communities.

This included purchasing and packing relief items, deploying specialised response teams to affected locations, and distributing essential supplies such as dry food, hygiene products, pillows, towels and diapers.

And coinciding with Mother’s Day on May 11, 2025, Allianz4Good collaborated with Kelab Marshal Keselamatan Jalan Raya Kuala Lumpur (RSMC) to build a safer community for women through the 8th Women Street Crime Awareness Campaign.

The campaign benefitted over 800 female participants with vital skills and knowledge to navigate potentially dangerous situations – including road safety elements for the first time, offering insights into vehicle safety inspection and tips on safer commuting for women.

Additional modules for this year’s campaign included detecting CCTV spy cameras, escaping a lift attack, and managing risks associated with drunk driving and microsleep.
